Chex Quest Review

                                     Chex Quest Review

                                            (First Cereal Prize FPS Game)

History

Chex Quest is a five-level  doomclone fps game which was only obtainable by purchasing Chex Cereals back in 1996 made by Digital Cafe. Over the years the game got a cult following and a website where you can even get user-made levels. The game is also Freeware.

Story

The flemoids have invaded the base in Bazoik and they consume nutrients to multiply. You are the Chex Warrior, self-volunteered to clear the base of flemoids, save the hostages and return home.

Gameplay

Gameplay is very similar to Doom. Even if the game is rather short, containing only five levels it is still enjoyable nontheless. The violence is almost non-existent, the target audience being children and teens. Over the years even adults enjoy this game because it brings back nostalgic memories.

Enemy types are rather few, easy to take out with your zorch weapons. These weapons send Flemoids back to their home-world and are very similar to the Doom counterparts. The BFG counterpart is also hidden in a secret area. The final boss is, ironically, a flemoid wall which shoots very damaging projectiles at you.

Soundtrack

Soundtrack is very enjoyable in this game, my personal favorite being the one in Map 5.

Conclusions and Score

In conclusion, even if it's a very faithful Doom Clone, Chex Quest is a Should-Play if you are an FPS enthusiast, if you're taking your time, you'd have just over a half an hour of gameplay. I give it a 9.5/10.
